Fractional Fundraising
What It Is and How It Works
You may have donor relationships that need more attention, fundraising plans you haven’t had time to put into practice, or a team that needs experienced leadership. I can help you give that work the time and attention it needs.
I work alongside you or your development team for a defined part of the week, with a focus on individual giving and particular expertise in major and planned gifts. We’ll start with where things stand today and what would be most helpful to you.
What might we work on together?
Depending on where you need help, we might work on:
- Developing and carrying out strategies for midlevel and major-gift donors, alongside you or your team
- Providing fundraising leadership for your team
- Preparing you, your staff, or board members for donor conversations
- Building your planned giving program and putting those plans into practice
- Planning and carrying out your annual giving efforts
- Making your CRM more useful for managing donor relationships and planning for expected revenue
- Coaching staff, executives, and board members and helping each person understand their role in fundraising
How is the fee determined?
For ongoing fractional work, a monthly retainer usually makes the most sense. The fee depends on what we’ll be working on, the time involved, and the level of responsibility. I work with a very limited number of fractional clients, with priority given to engagements of 12 months or longer.
Hourly support may be a better fit for coaching or a focused project. Before we begin, you’ll receive a proposal with the priorities, scope, fee, and our respective roles. There isn’t one standard package or monthly rate.
How we work together
You know your mission and the people who support it. I bring fundraising experience and dedicated time to help you build on those relationships and get to know new supporters.
Your executive director and board have an important part to play. That might mean sharing what they know about a donor, making an introduction, thanking a supporter, or joining a conversation. We’ll talk through who does what and what support they need to feel comfortable doing it.
I don’t bring a personal list of donors or promise to bring gifts with me. The work is in getting to know the people who care about your organization and giving those relationships regular attention.
Could this be a good fit for your organization?
You don’t need to have everything in place before we begin. You do need a leader and board who are ready to be involved, share what they know about your supporters, and make time for this work.
It is a strong fit if you:
- Want to spend more time building relationships with midlevel, major, and/or planned-giving donors
- Need experienced fundraising leadership without adding a full-time position
- Are ready to agree on priorities and follow through over time
- Have an executive director and board willing to take an active role in donor engagement
Let’s talk about where you could use help and whether working together this way would make sense.
